This workshop will provide information on the structure of HIPAA, the rulings leading up to the 1996 HIPAA Laws, the Final HIPAA Ruling 2000, Georgia Law, and Ethical Codes related to HIPAA defined "psychotherapy notes" and they differ from progress notes (notes in the client chart).  In addition, we will discuss how to make sense of HIPAA, GA Law including rulings by the Georgia Supreme Court, and Ethical Codes as they relate to confidentiality and disclosure.   In the afternoon, I will share with you information that I have compiled over my years as a clinical supervisor working with the Composite Board.  I will draw on my own experiences, information from the Composite Board website, personal communications with supervisees who have filed ethical complaints, and some of my own research.  I will provide you with some insight on how to increase the likelihood of the Board considering your complaint as well as a template to assist you in organizing the complaint.

This workshop can provide the 5 CE hours in ethics for APCs, LPCs, LMSWs, LCSWs, and MFTs.
